Robert "Bob" Munie celebrated his 100th birthday on Thursday Oct. 6, and the veteran of World War II got his wish. Munie, a Lakeview Assisted Living resident, was re-instated into the military for one more day during a ceremony headed by local Col. Frank Walker.

Residents, along with twenty staff members, received their first dose of Pfizer’s vaccine from the Calhoun County Health Department, according to Ganton Senior Communities. “I’ve owned assisted living communities in Battle Creek for 20 years and this has been the most challenging year by far, says Owner of Lakeview Assisted Living Scott Ganton. “Watching our residents deal with the restrictions that had to be put in place has been heartbreaking. This vaccine is a step in a positive direction.”

Residents at Lakeview Assisted Living aren't listening for the sound of reindeer on the roof this Christmas. Instead, they're listening for the sounds of Uma, a 4-year old black labrador, padding down the hallway. The coronavirus made 2020 a long and lonely year for many residents at the long-term care facility, so staff at Lakeview started a therapy dog program to bring them comfort and joy this holiday season.

So Taylor Crocetti and her new fiance Jeremiah Williams made some plans allowing Neubert to be a part of their special day.
