Battle Creek Senior Communities Inching Back to Normal
Following a grueling year for nursing home residents and their families, the state of Michigan has eased back restrictions on visits to long-term care facilities while the Centers for Disease Control has updated its visitation recommendations as case rates decline and vaccines become more available to vulnerable seniors.

Lakeview Assisted Living residents receive COVID-19 vaccine
Fifty residents were vaccinated at Lakeview Assisted Living earlier today. Residents, along with twenty staff members, received their first dose of Pfizer’s vaccine from the Calhoun County Health Department, according to Ganton Senior Communities. “I’ve owned assisted living communities in Battle Creek for 20 years and this has been the most challenging year by far, says Owner of Lakeview Assisted Living Scott Ganton. “Watching our residents deal with the restrictions that had to be put in place has been heartbreaking. This vaccine is a step in a positive direction.”

Comfort and joy: Therapy dog lifts spirits at Lakeview Assisted Living this Christmas
Residents at Lakeview Assisted Living aren't listening for the sound of reindeer on the roof this Christmas. Instead, they're listening for the sounds of Uma, a 4-year old black labrador, padding down the hallway. The coronavirus made 2020 a long and lonely year for many residents at the long-term care facility, so staff at Lakeview started a therapy dog program to bring them comfort and joy this holiday season.

A couple in Battle Creek didn't let a ban on visitors stop them from letting a close family friend be a part of their engagement. Due to COVID-19 precautions that keep visitors out of assisted living centers, Marilyn Neubert wasn't able to leave Lakeview Assisted Living or have loved ones in for visits. So Taylor Crocetti and her new fiance Jeremiah Williams made some plans allowing Neubert to be a part of their special day.

However last year when he found out that many of them couldn’t leave the facility to attend local military events, he decided to create one just for them.
