Resident of the Month
Catherine "Cathie" Davids
Catherine, who goes by Cathie, was born in Aliquippa, PA in 1929. Her parents came from Scotland and her Dad worked in a steel mill. She attended Monaca High School and loved typing class.
Cathie met her husband, Eugene, because their parents were friends. They fell in love, got married in 1954, and were married for 45 years. They were blessed with three children, Liz, Nancy, and Edward. Eugene was originally stationed at KI Sawyer Air Force Base outside Marquette, MI, and ended up at Ft. Custer in Battle Creek. They moved to the Post addition where they raised their children. After he retired in 1967, they moved to the Hidden Forest subdivision in Battle Creek.
Cathie and Eugene enjoyed traveling and took trips to Hawaii, Australia, and the Panama Canal. Cathie enjoyed trips to Florida with her daughter to visit friends.
Cathie worked for Freedom Oil in the accounting department for three years before her children were born. She then dedicated her life to raising her family. Cathie retired from the accounting department at Post Cereal in 1985. She won the Senior Service Achievement Award for Meals on Wheels where she volunteered for twelve years. She loved to sew and created many beautiful items over the years. She put her skills to work creating quilts for the Charitable Union. She was also a Foster Grandparent at Doris Klaussen Center. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was active in Rainbow Girls. Cathie and her family attended First Methodist Church and later attended Central Christian Church and First Presbyterian Church.
Cathie and her black and white fluffy cat, Peppie, enjoy living at Lakeview now. Cathie says she tries to keep a positive attitude and enjoy her health. She believes in “move it or lose it!” which is evident by all the walking she does at Lakeview. She also enjoys volunteering for the Mustard Seeds Initiative.
